It is worth noting that the city participated in giving a number of scientific lectures, including: a lecture by Professor Dr. Manal Ali Shalaby, a research professor at the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research Institute, entitled “Converting Marine Waste into Biological Innovations”. The latest innovations for which the city obtained a patent to enhance the production of industrial collagen from marine waste were presented. The lecture also addressed the problem of more than 70% of the total marine catch being exposed to additional processing operations such as cleaning the entrails and removing the scales, and benefiting from the blue economy by developing the marine biotechnology sector, which includes the production of medical and pharmaceutical products extracted from the seas. The lecture also addressed the importance of marine collagen and its many benefits, especially from an economic and environmental perspective. At the end of the lecture, it was announced that an industrial partner had been contracted to expand the scope of collagen production on a commercial level, which enhances Egypt’s ability to enter this promising field in a way that achieves sustainable economic and environmental value. In addition to a lecture by Dr. Ayat Muhammad Ahmad Al-Maghribi, Director of the Technology and Innovation Support Office in the city, on patents and industrial localization and the role of the Technology and Innovation Support Office in the city in providing technical and material support as well as awareness of the importance of intellectual property.
